HIVE
How do the blind and partially sighted enjoy art? HIVE is a temporary, sensory art installation intending to target all our senses. Beeswax from Kentish beekeepers across the areas of Swale and Medway were invited to participate in this unusual installation. The beekeepers loaned dirty wax which was then cleaned and cast into ecclesiastical patterned tiles. These tiles were mounted on reclaimed doors alongside blank tiles carved by members of the public in free workshops in the area.
At the end of the project the doors were sold and the wax tiles handed back to the beekeepers to be reused in their hives.
The project was funded by Ideas Test. (www.ideastest.co.uk)
HIVE won the Kent Creative Prize for a 3D Object 2016
